Benefits

The Difference Between DYSports and Other Tournaments
  • Comparable Playing Field

We carefully screen each team that registers for a tournament, providing a questionnaire at registration, along with evaluating their past performance, records, and placement in other tournaments. This process ensures they are a suitable fit for a developmental-level tournament, allowing us to match them against similarly skilled teams.

  • Manageable Tournaments

We recognize that athletes have physical limits and other events in their lives, and hosting events with more than a minimum of three games tends to wear athletes down rather than build them up. Three games provide a balanced opportunity for athletes and teams to develop their skills without taxing them or their weekends.

  • Ability to Develop

Our goal is for developing teams to compete and enhance their game. DYSports was not established to give everyone a trophy—some of life’s best lessons come from setbacks and losses. However, more equal competition will better spur youth development. Because in the end it is not how you started but how you finished your career.

  • Teachable Moments

We understand that teaching becomes challenging when your team is significantly outmatched. Comparable competition allows teams to work on recently learned skills, run play sets, and enjoy the game. Our level of play enables coaches to focus on the fundamentals of the game, teaching their athletes and helping them build a strong foundation.

DYSports has done a tremendous job of providing games for mid to lower level teams.  Their tournaments enable our program to have multiple teams per grade level, knowing that we will get the appropriate level of competition.  This means more girls competing and having fun on the court.  Thank you DYSports!

DYSports Overview

All youth, no matter their age or gender, develop, grow, and mature at different paces. The same goes for youth teams. For youth teams to develop, they need the ability to compete. Comparable competition allows them to work on recently learned skills, run play sets, and enjoy the game. In today’s select tournaments, too often there is a large gap between the talent level. This gap can hinder youth growth and development. DYSports was started to give select youth teams the chance to compete, grow and develop. DYSports was not established to give everyone a trophy—some of life’s best lessons come from setbacks and loses. However, more equal competition will better spur youth development. Because in the end it is not how you started but how you finished your career.

Founder

DYSports was founded by John Verduin in 2019 while he was completing his MBA at Seattle University. John grew up in Seattle playing multiple sports. He attended Ballard High School where he continued to play football and basketball. John was fortunate enough to continue his basketball career playing at the collegiate level for Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. During his youth years, John experienced all levels of competition. It was not until he started coaching that he realized there are not enough levels of play for youth to grow their game. John believes that for a kid to improve and develop a love for the game, he or she needs to participate in games where they can compete and grow.
