BALL DON’T LIE Details

DYSports Events: A step above Rec/YMCA/Boys and Girls Club and a level below elite travel teams, this tournament is designed for boys’ and girls’ basketball teams developing their game. It’s an excellent opportunity for feeder/school teams, B-level or below select teams, and Rec/YMCA/Boys and Girls Club teams looking to take the next step. Our focus is to provide the best environment for teams to compete against similarly talented opponents. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about whether this tournament is the right fit for your team.

Tournament Rules

Home and Away: In the schedule, the team listed at the bottom is designated as the Home team (wearing White), while the team at the top is the Away team (wearing Dark).

For fifth grade divisions and younger, only Man-to-Man Defense is allowed. (Man-to-Man rules are detailed in the tournament rules.)
Each team is required to provide a parent to assist with the score clock/game sheet.

Division Eligibility Rule:
Divisions at DYSports tournaments are determined by grade. If a team has one or more players in a grade older than the division, those players must meet the age requirement to maintain eligibility. Specifically, the player's birthday cannot be before May 1st of the current DYSports season.

Example: If you are a 4th-grade boys team and have a 10-year-old 5th grader on your roster, that athlete cannot turn 11 years old before May 1st during the September 1–August 31 DYSports season. Otherwise, the team will be ineligible to compete in that division.

We've put together a list of frequently asked questions to make things easier for you. Feel free to take a look and see if it answers any of your questions!

DYSports tournaments are designed for developing youth teams. We consider "developing" to be above the Recreational Level and below the high level/select elite. If your team is interested in our events but does not fall within this talent range for DYSports events, please reach out, and we can see if there are opportunities for playing up or down a grade.

A team may only play down a grade if approved by DYSports. To be eligible for consideration, the team must have participated in at least one DYSports tournament prior to the upcoming event. Approval will only be granted if DYSports determines that playing down is a better fit for the team while maintaining a safe and competitive environment for the other teams in the lower division.

Examples of situations where DYSports might approve this:

  • The team has consistently lost every game by 30–35+ points in previous tournaments.
  • The team is clearly not developed enough to compete at their grade level.
  • Other exceptional circumstances deemed appropriate by DYSports.

DYSports does not offer refunds for team cancellations after registration closes or for game cancellations due to weather, COVID-19, or opponent issues; transaction fees may be deducted for cancellations made before the tournament registration deadline. Our policies are designed to ensure fairness and efficient management of our events, encouraging teams to commit thoughtfully to their participation.

DYSports tournaments typically start as early as 8 am, and the last games on Saturday typically do not start later than 8 pm. Sunday’s last game will typically start no later than 6 pm. Games are typically less than 60 minutes.

We screen each new team asking them to fill out a survey so we can gauge their level of play. After every DYSports tournament, DYSports pulls all scores from the event and examines individual team performance. If we believe a team is ready for the next level, they will be notified. Also, if a team is struggling, we will reach out with the opportunity to place them in a more suitable division.

The minimum number of teams required to fill a division at a DYSports event is three for a three-game tournament. If the tournament includes four games, the minimum required is four teams.
